ACT For Today, the Affiliation of Catholic Therapists, was conceived of and established by Paul C. Seishas, Ed.D. Dr. Seishas began his ministry in the Catholic church as a young high school seminarian at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mountain View, California in 1966. Following graduation there and after earning a BA in Religious Studies with a minor in Psychology from San Jose State University he began an education ministry as a high school Theology teacher. Continuing to pursue this ministry Dr. Seishas earned a MA in Theology from St. Mary’s College of California and, moved to begin a ministry of counseling, also earned a MS in Counseling and Mental Health from California State University, Hayward. In 1985 Dr. Seishas became a fully licenced Marriage and Family Therapist. He earned his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of the Pacific in 2009.
For nearly forty years Dr. Seishas engaged in the ministries of education and psychotherapy with the hope of someday forming an association of like-minded therapists, professionals who would focus their practice in the Catholic Community and in the context of Christian ministry. As the Hebrew Testament images of priest, prophet, and king suggest, the members of this association are committed to worship, witness, and service to the People of God as ministers in the Catholic Church.
ACT For Today is a Cathloic faith based ministry serving the needs of the greater Sacramento Diocese. While not an official functionary of the Catholic Church, this association seeks referrals from pastors to . Some therapists may also serve as employees of individuals parishes to provide its various ministries at the parish site for a reduced sliding scale fee.
Dr. Seishas currently practices as an employee of St. Joseph Catholic Community in Elk Grove, CA and conducts a private practice off parish grounds in Elk Grove as well.
